Alright, another Friday, another Weekly Links! This week we’ve got some really great stuff for you, and a lot of it is audio/video as well as text, so let’s get down to it:
- First up, over at the Vitamin Z blog, there’s an update from Matt Chandler. If you’ve been following that at all, I’d encourage you to check it out and keep Matt in prayer.
- The last couple of weeks, Pastor John has consistently referenced a book by Kevin DeYoung and Ted Kluck on the church. Over at the Gospel Coalition blog, they’ve dug up six sermons by DeYoung on the same theme. If you want to learn more about the church, objections people have against it, and what it means to have a sound ecclesiology, you should give these a listen.
- And since we all could be benefitted by some exposure to John Piper, I’ve got a couple of different articles for you here. The first is a sermon (you could watch or listen as well), on teaching children to love people who are different from them. No, I’m not throwing that out because I’m the Irish/German/English guy at the Chinese/Korean/insert-your-Asian-persuasion-here church. I just thought parents might light to have something aimed at them from time to time. And in a totally different vein, here’s another short article by Piper for all the readers out there on how to Measure Your Favorite Authors By What The Bible Includes.
- I thought the interview was over, but apparently not. On a much lighter note, How Does RC Sproul Feel About Facebook, and Where Did Evil Come From?
- Unless you live under a rock, you probably were at least peripherally aware that this week marked the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. And yes, I realize that I am stomping my way through a minefield by bringing this up, but here goes. I’ve previously linked to some of the fallacies in pro-choice argumentation. Regardless of your experience with the birth or loss of a child, God loves you and God loves your child. We are made in the image of God, and our lives are brief but precious in His sight. And God is capable of even using tragedy and grief to draw us closer to Him. Something to keep in mind.
- Jared Wilson is a crazy person. Praise God for crazy people.
- Over at Mike Wittmer’s blog, he has posted an insightful article examining the link between attacks on the doctrine of total depravity and progression of postmodern culture. I highly recommend it to you.
- In an older article in the Journal of Biblical Counseling, I found an interesting piece on Understanding Anger by David Powlison, and how as Christians we really need to avoid the simplistic thinking of “nature vs. nurture.” I’d recommend the full article, but the quick version to whet your appetite can be found here.
- We all know I love apologetics, so it’s especially nice when I find someone who agrees with something I’ve been saying for a long time.
- And purely for fun, the writer and grammarian in me enjoyed this immensely. And it’s a really good poem to boot.
