After going one year strong, we thought The Beacon cover was due for a refresh. In addition to the visible changes in the print edition, you will now be able to catch the official LBC newsletter online at LBCBeacon.wordpress.com. There, you can interact with some of the content, by posting questions, comments, and giving us any other feedback you may have.

At the end of last month, we concluded our Sunday Evening Defining the Relationship (DTR) Series. It was profitable time. Married and engaged couples shared their lives as they were interviewed, and the very talented Single Life skit team gave us quite an emotional performance. The highlight of the series, of course, was the time of teaching, as Pastor John and Pastor Patrick gave us biblical insight into subjects like God-centered friendships, qualities to look for in a companion, and even when and how to break-up in a God-honoring way.

If you missed the series, be sure to get the sermons online or from the sound team.

If you receive this newsletter, chances are good you’ve scoped out the new building. Members are buzzing with the excitement a new facility brings, but with all the celebration, let’s look beyond the great gift and continue to fix our eyes the Giver. As James writes, “every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

Additionally, let’s remember that with the new facilities come many new opportunities to serve our church family. Be on the lookout for ways you could lend a helping hand.

It’s only March, but many Lighthouse members are already looking forward to the summer. That’s because Summer Missions Applications have just been turned in and the leaders are busy preparing for the annual missions trips to Argentina and the Czech Republic. In this issue of The Beacon, you will find a preview of what’s in store.

It’s amazing that we’re already at the end of 2007. With Christmas just around the corner, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of the holiday season. But this month, take some time to reflect on the greatest gift of all, Jesus Christ. And, as Dr. Snider preached at our recent all-church camp, let’s remember His humility in making “himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” And even beyond His humble birth, let’s praise Him for becoming “obedient to the point of deaht, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:7,8). Please join us later this month as we celebrate Christ together at our Christmas concert. More information can be found in this newsletter.

Happy Thanksgiving! The holiday season is officially upon us. What a great time to reflect on the amazing grace of God in each of our lives. From a loving community of believers, the preaching of God’s Word, ample opportunity for ministry, and leaders that care, there are abundant reasons to praise God here at Lighthouse. But above all, let’s each thank God for the greatest gift of all: the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. As the apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:19, without the resurrection of His Son, Christians are to be the most pitied of all people. This holiday season, let’s avoid the self-centered tendencies of the world and fix our eyes on Christ alone.

While the rest of the world goes is at the market buying pumpkins, candy, decorations or scouring party stores for costumes for Halloween, we, as Christians, have a completely different reason to celebrate. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door at Castle Church. Today, we commemorate this day as Reformation Day, a day in which we can recognize our rich spiritual heritage, and remember the saints who courageously fought for truth in their time. In this edition of the newsletter, we will briefly look at a few of these saints. This would also be a great month to pick up a good Christian biography and examine how the fire of their devotion can light our way today.

The days are getting shorter, as fall is just around the corner. For some, it means breaking out the new pens and binders for the brand new school year. For others, it means waking up a little earlier to cope with the back-to-school traffic on the way to work. Here at Lighthouse, the beginning of the new school year is always an exciting time, as we commonly welcome an influx of new visitors, many of them being bright-eyed freshmen. Let’s remember to be shining witnessees for Christ, considering how we may serve our brothers and sisters as they adjust to the “hardships” of San Diego.

It’s summer time! While many people see the summer as a chance to get some rest and relaxation, members at Lighthouse Bible Church are busy gearing up for summer missions. This year, we are, again, privileged to send two teams-one to Argentina and one to the Czech Republic. Team members and senders are busy raising funds, planning logistics and preparing in prayer. In this edition of The Beacon, we wanted to take a look back at the brief history of Lighthouse Missions, before profiling the two 2007 Summer Missions Trips. Our aim is that you will be spurred on to pray for the teams, the missionaries they will assist and the unreached peoples they will encounter.

In correspondence with our eight-year anniversary service, we are very excited to release (or re-release, if you’ve been here long enough) the official newsletter for Lighthouse Bible Church. A handful of members have gathered together with the aim of providing up-to-date news and notes on Lighthouse church life, reporting on broader current events and writing about other miscellaneous subjects, all filtered-God-willing-through a biblical worldview. Our prayer is that this newsletter will not only help keep a growing church connected, but above all, point members and visitors to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
