{"id":2428,"date":"2010-11-19T01:00:36","date_gmt":"2010-11-19T09:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/?p=2428"},"modified":"2014-11-19T15:17:08","modified_gmt":"2014-11-19T23:17:08","slug":"weekly-links-11192010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/2010\/11\/19\/weekly-links-11192010\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekly Links (11\/19\/2010)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by Stephen Rodgers<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Welcome back everyone&#8230;once again, we&#8217;ve gone a little farther around the sun and we&#8217;re back at Friday. \u00a0So, to keep that time interesting and profitable, here&#8217;s another set of links for your enjoyment and edification.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In our last edition, we had a couple of article on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/?p=2364\">digital life and social media.<\/a> This week, we&#8217;ve got a couple more for you as well. \u00a0Michael Johnson continues his series on remaining faithful in a world that increasingly demands divided attention, and over at Justin Taylor&#8217;s blog he posts a great excerpt from David Powlison on the subject of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thegospelcoalition.org\/blogs\/justintaylor\/2010\/11\/10\/a-vision-of-how-to-interact-within-new-social-media\/\">giving grace in interaction.<\/a> (WEB)<\/li>\n<li>And speaking of online interaction, Dane Ortlund has a great post on <a href=\"http:\/\/dogmadoxa.blogspot.com\/2010\/10\/1-timothy-64-and-blogging.html\">1 Timothy 6:4 and blogging.<\/a> He makes a rather surprising connection between online obnoxiousness and addiction to pornography&#8230;and before you dismiss that out of hand, I&#8217;d recommend giving his article some thought. In a similar vein, I thought this might be a great time to repost this insightful commentary from JC Ryle on <a href=\"http:\/\/jcrylequotes.com\">5 Dangers for Young Men.<\/a> (WEB)<\/li>\n<li>John Piper also brings us this great observation on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NY6bn-MrjdQ&amp;feature=player_embedded\">greatest potential weakness of my generation of believers.<\/a> (VIDEO)<\/li>\n<li>Speaking of John Piper, did you know that if you read books via some sort of e-reader, almost <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desiringgod.org\/books\" class=\"broken_link\">ALL of his books are available for free online?<\/a> I knew that some were there, but I hadn&#8217;t realized how extensive the offerings were. \u00a0If you&#8217;re in the habit of doing much reading your phone\/e-reader\/tablet\/computer, might I suggest that this is probably a better use of time than what you might normally be reading? \u00a0I know that it certainly would be for me&#8230; (WEB)<\/li>\n<li>And also in the &#8220;resources&#8221; category, 9Marks recently launched (or re-launched, I&#8217;m not entirely sure) their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.9marks.org\/answers-for-pastors\/\" class=\"broken_link\">&#8220;Answers for Pastors&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.9marks.org\/answers-for-church-members\/\" class=\"broken_link\">&#8220;Answers for Church Members&#8221;<\/a> websites. \u00a0I haven&#8217;t looked at either exhaustively, but I did give several topics a quick scan and there are some great, clear answers in there. (WEB)<\/li>\n<li>A few of you know that the I&#8217;ve personally been studying the very topic that Al Mohler addressed this week on his blog. \u00a0If you have any interest in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.albertmohler.com\/2010\/11\/12\/the-glory-of-god-and-the-life-of-the-mind\/\">the glory of God and the life of the mind,<\/a> then I commend his article to you as a great introduction to the topic.
