{"id":2505,"date":"2010-12-17T01:00:25","date_gmt":"2010-12-17T09:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/?p=2505"},"modified":"2016-09-16T23:58:40","modified_gmt":"2016-09-17T06:58:40","slug":"weekly-links-12172010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/2010\/12\/17\/weekly-links-12172010\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekly Links (12\/17\/2010)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by Stephen Rodgers<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Well hello again! \u00a0It&#8217;s Friday, and that means that we have a new collection of links for you all&#8230;and there&#8217;s a story behind these. \u00a0You see, until a few moments ago, I was <em>sure<\/em> that today was the last Friday before Christmas, and so I had a <em>special<\/em> version of the links for you&#8230;a Christmas edition. \u00a0Then I looked at a calendar to try to figure out when I needed to finish some housework in order to deceive my visiting parents into believing that I&#8217;m this responsible and organized all the time&#8230;and BAM! \u00a0Oops. \u00a0Wrong Friday.<\/p>\n<p>So&#8230;here is a <em>special<\/em> version of the links after all&#8230;a special normal version. \u00a0That almost didn&#8217;t happen.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Desiring God ministries is experimenting with giving away free Christian ebooks that are in the public domain. \u00a0For starters, you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desiringgod.org\/blog\/posts\/free-electronic-version-of-edwards-religious-affections\" class=\"broken_link\">cruise over here and grab<\/a> a copy of Jonathan Edwards&#8217; <em>Religious Affections<\/em>. \u00a0(EPUB file)<\/li>\n<li>And in case you forgot&#8230;they also are giving away <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desiringgod.org\/books\" class=\"broken_link\">free PDF versions of EVERY John Piper book.<\/a> No joke. \u00a0How awesome is that? (PDF) \u00a0(Note: I stand corrected&#8230;I think that a few recent ones are missing, but there&#8217;s still over 50 books there for free)<\/li>\n<li>Jon Acuff is hit or miss for me. \u00a0For those who don&#8217;t know him, he&#8217;s a Christian comedian. \u00a0Sometimes he strikes me as a bit more comedian than Christian. \u00a0But this article&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonacuff.com\/stuffchristianslike\/2010\/12\/the-repetition-of-redemption\/\">this article nails it.<\/a> Nails. It. And if you won&#8217;t take my word for it, here&#8217;s the first sentence: &#8220;Sometimes, I treat God like a gun.&#8221; Now you <em>have <\/em>to read it to find out what he means.\u00a0(WEB)<\/li>\n<li>So I&#8217;ve been doing a LOT of reading on the related topics of productivity, time management, efficiency, the doctrine of good works, etc. \u00a0Along the way, I started to actually despair a little&#8230;one of the greatest regrets in my life is how much I <em>haven&#8217;t<\/em> done&#8230;not much hurts as much as the pain of opportunities and time lost and gone forever. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hopeingod.org\/news-events\/bethlehem-blogs\/pastor-sams-blog\/you-never-will\" class=\"broken_link\">Then I read this.<\/a> I hope it helps you as well. (WEB)<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t worry&#8230;I won&#8217;t forget your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desiringgod.org\/blog\/posts\/a-bitter-harvest\" class=\"broken_link\">weekly dose of Paul Tripp.<\/a> This time, he has an article that seems to dovetail very nicely with our recent articles on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/?p=2292\">making<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/?p=2414\">decisions<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/?p=2468\">minimal Christianity.<\/a> (WEB)<\/li>\n<li>So, as you all know, I recently joined the ranks of the engaged. \u00a0Which means that <a href=\"http:\/\/marshill.com\/2010\/12\/14\/how-to-honor-your-wife\/\" class=\"broken_link\">articles like this one<\/a> have taken on a whole new level of importance. \u00a0If you&#8217;re thinking about dating, dating, thinking about getting engaged, engaged, thinking about getting married, or married&#8230;you should probably read it.
