{"id":8835,"date":"2014-01-03T01:00:46","date_gmt":"2014-01-03T09:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/?p=8835"},"modified":"2017-09-05T17:18:31","modified_gmt":"2017-09-06T00:18:31","slug":"bible-reading-plans-for-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/2014\/01\/03\/bible-reading-plans-for-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Bible Reading Plans for 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by Stephen Rodgers<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Technically, we&#8217;re still on hiatus, but since it&#8217;s a new year, here&#8217;s a quick post reminding everyone where we stash the resources related to Bible-reading plans.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, we have a number of resources available here on the Beacon already:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Patrick has a <a href=\"http:\/\/lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/2011\/01\/11\/reading-your-bible-in-2011\/\">stellar article on Bible-reading in general<\/a> from 2011.<\/li>\n<li>I have a <a href=\"http:\/\/lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/2013\/01\/09\/reading-your-bible-in-2013\/\">less-stellar article on the same subject<\/a> from 2013.<\/li>\n<li>We maintain a semi-up-to-date selection of Bible-reading plans on the <a href=\"http:\/\/lighthousebc.com\/beacon\/2011\/01\/07\/recommended-resources\/#Bible-Reading Plans\">Recommended Resources page.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">Second, the <a href=\"http:\/\/christianaudio.com\/esv-hear-the-word-audio-bible-audiobook-download\" class=\"broken_link\">free book of the month<\/a> from christianaudio.com is actually the ESV Bible! This is a great resource for being able to hear the Bible read out loud, which is wonderful because 1) it&#8217;s another way to get it into your brain, and 2) some portions of Scripture were actually intended to be consumed that way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">Third, a number of sites have their own recommendations and ideas for what constitutes a good Bible-reading plan in 2014. \u00a0In no particular order, they are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ligonier.org\/blog\/bible-reading-plans\/\">Ligonier Ministries<\/a> (a collection of 14 different plans)<\/li>\n<li>Peter Krol&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thegospelcoalition.org\/article\/a-bible-reading-plan-for-readers\/\">Bible-reading plan for readers<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Denny Burk&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dennyburk.com\/a-plan-to-read-through-the-bible-in-2014\/\">canonical order plan<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Justin Taylor has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thegospelcoalition.org\/blogs\/justintaylor\/2013\/12\/26\/how-to-read-the-whole-bible-in-2014\/\">rather large post<\/a> describing various types of plans with links to over a dozen of them<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">One last comment: it&#8217;s very easy to get wrapped up in the technical merits of one plan over another, but let me go slightly out on a limb here and say that the best Bible-reading plan is the one that you&#8217;ll actually <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><em>do<\/em><\/strong><\/span>. Pick a plan, and stick with it. That&#8217;s really the first, and most important, decision to make.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So <em>Tolle Lege<\/em>&#8230;it&#8217;s not just for Augustine!
