I came to LBC because I heard that it had a Friday night single group and I
wanted to improve my Bible knowledge. After bring brought to the single
study group I actually like the study and how people hold me accountable for
my actions. So I went to a few Sunday service and enjoy the bible teaching.
I could see myself growing in the knowledge of the word and understand what I was truly believing in I decided to stay and grow in the knowledge of the word.

Kevin: Hi, I’ve been very happily married to Mabel for a little over 3 years. My experience at Lighthouse Bible Church has taught me to love God, His Word and His people, and through the ministry at LBC I’ve grown tremendously in my faith. I look forward to working with the Single adults’ ministry again this year while coming alongside people in prayerful support and walking through life together as a fellow believer in Christ.

God brought me to Lighthouse in 2005 after I moved back home to San Diego and has been faithful in growing me so much these past few years through the preaching of our pastor and elders. I’m so thankful for this opportunity to serve the singles! This ministry has helped to shape my thinking and challenged me in considering how to use my singleness and now married life for His glory.

I currently work as a software engineer. As for my favorite Bible passage, it’s hard to choose! Right now I’m really loving Paul’s sermon on Mars Hill and reflecting on just how great our sovereign Lord and creator is.

Shortly after I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2005, I moved to San Diego to start working. As I was looking for churches, I found Lighthouse Bible Church to be a church who valued a high view of God’s Word. It was also a place where I could immediately get plugged in and start serving alongside other like-minded Christians. I joined Single Life admin staff since it gave me the unique opportunity to plan activities that would help foster God-glorifying fellowship and encouragement within the Single Life community.

After serving 4 years overseas with the military, I was looking for a church to call my own. Having learned my lesson from previous church experiences, I wanted to find a church that was committed to teaching the bible and had a congregation that was composed of believers. I found LBC’s website while searching for churches in San Diego. Listening to Pastor John’s and Patrick’s sermons online motivated me to meet the church in person. When I first visited LBC I didn’t feel welcome. It wasn’t because people didn’t welcome me. Rather it was because I wasn’t comfortable with talking about my relationship with Christ. LBC was set apart from previous churches because the members weren’t really interested in my accomplishments in the world; they were more interested in asking me about my walk with Christ. After a period of evaluation I decided to stay because the church taught God’s word and their members lived out the word by keeping each other accountable.
I enjoyed the mid week teaching and the fellowship of Singles ministry. It was good to be taught from the bible two times a week and be able to break bread with church members. I also liked the investment that people made in each other’s life through small group, singles, and informal meetings. Since I was new to San Diego, I also enjoyed finding good places to eat and doing fun things in San Diego.
- Hobbies: I have too many to be specific. I like Martial arts, Outdoor activities, Water Sports, and Dinning.
- Favorite Christian book: Is this a trick question? Besides the Bible, I like The Gospel According to Jesus: What is authentic Faith? by John MacArthur.
- Favorite Bible verse: Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
Andy Shin
Hey everyone! My name is Andy Shin and I serve as one of the deacons here at Lighthouse Bible Church. I graduated from UCSD with a degree in Management Science and now work in finance. A good friend invited me out to LBC back in 2005 and I’ve been here ever since! Over the years, God has not only taught me how important the local church is for the Christian, but has provided a great one in LBC. It is truly a blessing and privilege to serve you.
