About LBC

Theology

The Gospel – Like any true church, we are a group of people who have been saved by Jesus Christ.  We gather to worship Him in response to His love for us, and to build each other up into a closer relationship with God.

Statement of Faith – We believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God, which is sufficient to equip us for every situation.   Therefore, we strive to clearly understand what it teaches and base the life of the church on these doctrines.

Fundamentals of the Faith. Fundamentals of the Faith (FOF) is a class offered on Sundays that teaches the foundational truths of Christianity in an accessible way.  If you are interested in becoming involved in the life of the church it is important to first understand what that life is based on and around.  It is good for both Christians and non-Christians alike, and is a great first step to getting involved in the church.

Community

Sunday Worship – We meet every Sunday at 8:30 am and 10:45 am to worship God as a church body.  This time consists of singing, teaching, offerings, participating in the Lord’s Table and fellowship.

Affinity Groups – The Christian life is one of relationship, with God and with our Christian brothers and sisters.   Relationships are where the “one another” commands are practically obeyed.  At Lighthouse the formal outworking of this is the affinity group.   Since the church is so large it is hard to disciple, encourage, and love one another by just going to Sunday worship services.   Affinity groups are where we have smaller bible studies and fellowship activities for children, youth, collegians, single adults, and married couples.

Flocks – Flock are smaller gatherings of LBC members and attenders from all affinity groups.  They meet in homes throughout the San Diego area to discuss the latest sermon and to fellowship.  Each flock does things a little differently, but all are a great way to get to know other believers at LBC.  To join, just check out the flocks page and talk to one of the leaders.

Children – One of the most frequent questions from visiting families is how their young children will fit in on Sunday.  LBC is devoted to declaring the glory of God to the next generation, so we have a strong children’s ministry.

Ministries at LBC – Ministry boils down to service; when you minister you are serving others.  This is how we practically work out the second part of the passion statement, to love people.   This is where we use the gifts God has given us to build the church.  Hopefully you are finding ways to serve others on your own, but if you are not sure where to start or would like to partner with other Christians joining one of LBC’s ministries is a great venue for service.  Keep in mind that many of the ministries at LBC require membership.

Membership – At Lighthouse we believe that becoming a member at a local church is an important part of obedience to biblical commands. It is the way we formally recognize those who want to submit to the leadership of the elders and partner with us in our M.V.P.  To be a member you have to be a Christian, be baptized and be willing to participate in the life and ministry of the church as much as you are able.  There are periodically membership classes so listen for them in the announcements and sign-up.

Identity

M.V.P. – There are three principles that LBC rallies behind, which affect everything we do as a church.  Our Mission is to make disciples of Christ.  Our Vision is to plant churches. Our Passion is to love God and people.

Leadership – LBC is an elder-led congregation.  We currently have seven elders; Patrick Cho, who is also our senior pastor, James Lee, Roger Alcaraz, Johnny Kim, Peter Lim, John Rudolph, and Kevin Tse.

History – Lighthouse Bible Church was first planted in San Diego by Pastor John Kim in 1998.  Simple prayers for a church plant in 1996 began this journey.  Since then God has used this church to spread His Word not only to San Diego, but also to San Jose, Los Angeles, and Orange County.

Church Plants – We have been blessed to participate in planting several churches in California. They include: LBC San Jose, LBC Los Angeles, and LBC Orange County

The Beacon – We have an online newsletter where we post articles ranging from doctrine to goings-on at church.  If you would like to know more about what happens at LBC you should check it out.
